I think the first few minutes were just to establish the personality of each of the girls, expose their weaknesses/vulnerabilities, and put in a few Chekov's guns (e.g., the music box, the computer background, etc.) which was definitely necessary, although I was disappointed that some of them didn't end up coming into play. And of course that it was a cast of 99% women was wonderful as well. Very likable and relatable characters, not tropes, which was ultra refreshing. Loved the whole cast, all the actors did a fantastic job. Jump scares were on point, and there hasn't been a truly good jump-scare movie since the first Insidious. Definitely Paranormal Activity vibes but we actually thought it was way better. Yeah I watched it yesterday with my wife and we both totally loved it.
